Soul Care, Biblical Counseling

  • Jim served in the military for 26.5 years then as a Church Administrator for First Baptist Church in Hobbs, New Mexico the past 5 years.  The last 11 years of his military career, as well as the past 5 years in ministry many hours were spent in home group & discipling ministries, offering financial counseling, several domestic violence and abuse situations. He is experienced in dealing with terminal illness and the affects it has on the patient and family. He enjoys providing comfort and direction in periods of grief and has spent the past 4 years working with families and individuals diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer's disease and few members with terminal cancer.  These are the areas of interest being pursued theologically and are the main focus of his counseling along with dealing with forgiveness and divorce. 

  • Education/Experience:

    Jim received a Certification in Christian Ministry through Church Answers University and has graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Certificate in Biblical Counseling. Jim performed over a hundred and fifty home visits to lead or assist in home devotions, hospital visits and home visits to our homebound members. He started the Home Group Ministry at First Baptist Church starting with 3 families and grew to 3 home groups attended by 25% of the church membership. Jim recently joined Redeemer Church in Hobbs and is devoted to providing soul care through disciple-based counseling.  

     

    Jim is a member of the Association of Biblical Counselors (ABC) and plans to complete an ABC Level 1 certificate. He has completed the Biblical Counseling Certificate. Currently, Jim is taking a small break in formal training before starting to pursue his level 1 ABC certification.
